Brumm Brumm Brrrrumm Driving thread

Postby Jamie » Wed Jul 18, 2012 4:31 pm

Hey everyone!

It's that time of year again when we want to think about who can drive for the club in the coming year. The club will fall apart without a decent number of people willing to drive for trips, so please consider it if you can.

Can anyone with a MiDAS qualification or a car in Leeds please post so we know how many we have :D

Also anyone who would like to drive for us the requirements are...

Van: Full car license. Register with union (Show paper and plastic license to the Union and fill in a form).
MPV: Full car license for a year. Be over 18, register with union and take the MiDAS MPV theory and practical tests.
Minibus: Full car license for 3 years. Be over 21, register with union and take the MiDAS Minibus theory and practical tests.

It would be useful for anyone eligible to drive the van to register with the union, so please bring both parts of your license to Leeds! (it can be a photocopy)

Anyone able to and wanting to do a MiDAS test please post on here or send me a PM. We are hoping to get some booked for as early into the term as possible, so please let me know asap.

The club pays for the MiDAS tests so obviously we are looking for people who would be coming on a lot of club trips to make it a worth while investment, but don't think that it would rope you in to coming every week!

The benefits for you: If you drive you don't pay for the trip! And much loving.

Registering with the union

Anyone who can drive for the club, either in a hired vehicle or in their own needs to register in order to be on the LUU Authorised Drivers List, for the academic year 2012-2013. All you will need to do is go into the union with an up to date copy of your paper and plastic drivers licence, go to the Student Activities Office, Level 2 of the Union Building, fill in a form (LUU Authorised Drivers Form), and away you go.

For people with their own cars, to do it by the book you have to fill out a Private Vehicle form and show your:
* Motor Insurance
* MOT Certificate (if under 3 years old a copy of the new vehicle registration document)
* Tax Disc (a photo is sufficient)

I know its annoying but the Union demands that people re-register every year.

Sorry for the long post in summertime. Hope everyone is well!

Jamie

I'll register for vans when I'm back. Potentially MPV too, but I'll need to do MiDAS.
I'm not in Aberystwyth.

I'll be around next year with a car and the ability to drive a van. Won't be there every weekend but will register with the union in case I'm ever needed. x

I would be up for doing the MiDAS for the MPV if you're wanting more people (sorry this isn't a very asap response. I will get better at checking the forum more regularly)
Look like you're enjoying yourself!

I'm willing to drive any of the vehicles but would require the MiDAS qualification.

If anyone is in the Union today, could they grab me both the Registered Drivers and Private Vehicles forms?

Hope noone kills me if I dig out this thread.

There is a Polo Div3/4 game on Saturday and Faffy and Polo Dan asked me if I could drive the van back to Leeds afterwards. I am already registered with the Uni ( once registered, you're in for the term, arent you?), so no problem there.

However could someone please give me a short insight in how and where I get the van / where I should get him to after unloading at the chapel?

cheers, Jan :)
